ANTENNA USED BY G0MHC

My antenna is nothing special, it's just a wire dipole based on the G5RV design but resonant on 18Mhz.

How this came about was purely by chance, from a remark made at the radio club I attend and it goes like this,

A WIRE DIPOLE OF 85Ft.
(being half the top section plus the feeder)
WILL TUNE EASILY ON ANY OF THE AMATEUR BANDS.

So having just purchased 32Ft 10 inches (10 Metres) of 400 ohm slotted feeder I decided to give it a go
and make a wire dipole. To keep with the above theory I made half the top 52Ft 2 inches and hey presto as predicted I had a dipole that loaded up on all the amateur bands with ease using the auto. tuner in the rig,
a TS 850 at the time. As an added bonus it was resonant on 18 and 29.5 Mhz and a VSWR on 7 Mhz
of 1 to 1.7, not bad for a piece of cheap wire.

That was about 1990 and I have used this configuration since then at two locations with great success.
Using only 100 watts I have WORKED THE WORLD.

At the first location it was an inverted V with the feed point at 35Ft and now it is as a flat top at about 20 Ft.

No doubt the Yagi fanaticts amongst you will be only to quick to point out the virtues of a multi element beam at several tens of feet, but for us mortals that have neither the money nor the space,
A PIECE OF WIRE CAN DO THE TRICK.
